The Invisible World

The Invisible World
I created this anthology of two texts – an essay called "The Crystal Goblet" by Beatrice Warde, which totes the idea that typography should be invisible and that its only function should be to convey the author's idea to the reader, and, to juxtapose this, an article called "The Invisible Forces that Make Writing Work" by Roger Rosenblatt. By combining these texts, I wanted to contrast Rosenblatt's idea that the way something is written and interpreted is influenced by both the author's and the reader's own experiences.

I thought of memories as a reflection of the invisible past experiences that shape who we are and how we see the world, and used images of everyday scenes with a nostalgic quality to them to allude to this. The use of tracing paper overlaid over text and image and the recycled, speckled paper emphasizes the organic nature of the book and alludes to the fading memories and underlying experiences we have that make up the invisible world that affects how we perceive our world.
